bull, I've done it on my lag-o-matic computer. I hit the small rocks, but those disintigrate against your shields already (look closely next time you fly through 'em). We're talking the real big stuff. I fly around, through, and in all that stuff.

Eh, I think this is a little iffy. All it would do is make space travel more annoying, so here's my opinion:

Little stuff: Still bounces off your ship. Causes no damage.

Nebula: Anything BUT shield disable/drain, otherwise the guy getting chased is instantly screwed.

Stations and large asteroids: Instant kill. Seriously, who's stupid enough to fly straight into a space station on accident?

Other ships: NO DAMAGE, or otherwise people with fast ships would abuse the hell out of it. I read that two colliding shields causes a burst of energy and throws the two shielded objects away from each other, so maybe that could be put in the game?

Honestly, changing this will just mean fewer people in space. What are we gaining by adding this? Realism? Mego-NO! If we wanted realism, we'd never see an asteroid. In the densest asteroid belts, you'd never see more than one. There should be space to push a planet between asteroids.

I have to agree with Morik on this. All it's going to do is keep people out of space, and annoy the ones that stay. Now that I rethink it, even making space stations an instant kill would be bad; I've often had to rush toward a space station to escape to the surface, and I don't have time to slow down and carefully fly into the center while I'm being chased.

i would really find that having asteroids and stations and that do dmg would rock, i find not having that kinda keeps me away from space cause i get bored up there. There is no real tactics to space, its just merely spin in circles, try to get behind, match speed, cut engines etc., with asteroids tho, you could be being chased so u go into a asteroid field and start flying around asteroids, meaning that u dont have to have powerful weapons to win, if you fly well, you can win. I rlly think that this would be awsome heh :)

If we did implement it, there would be no instant kill, and it should only affect shields. For the sake of people who don't have good connections, or fast computers. The people who lag will run right into it because on there screen its frozen or has caused the "rubber-band" effect that still hasn't been cleared up in NGE. and i always enjoyed flying through the space stations like spinning and flying in between the little sides of it.

Definitely objects should cause damage to ships. It makes it more realistic and believable that way.

Also, for those with lower end systems, the objects don't really appear until you are really close to them. That could be problematic. Just affecting shields and stuff...I'd go with that.

the shield idea i sort of agree with, they should not instant kill now that i think bout it, but take down the shield, but if you have no shield then you start losing armor dmg, then your systems get dmg'd, but it nvr one-shots a whole area unless u hit it rlly fast with some that has weak protection.

Well I think it should/would be limited around orbital space stations and what not you know, Mainly because I think main purpose would be for dog fights : ). And I think that people are talking about Big astroids, somthing thats big enough to reconize that you need to move. Not little things of debri that you cant see, doing damage to you.
