 SOE Game update 6
Recent Headlines for Star Wars Galaxies Game Update 6 Release Notes Digg this article By Keith Cross on Jan 12, 2009 SOE has posted the publish notes for Star Wars Galaxies: Game Update 6, which adds a new appearance feature allowing characters to wear gear for fashion and not for stats. Appearance Window: * The Appearance tab has been added. All characters may now access a window that determines the outward appearance of their characters. This Appearance window allows you to equip armor, clothing, and jewelry that do not alter your stats, but instead are simply for show. * To wear an item as an appearance item, you must be able to normally equip that item and that item must be in your inventory at the time you equip it as an appearance item. * Items equipped as appearance items do not count against your total inventory space. * All profession, level, and species restrictions are still obeyed by appearance items. * A radial option "Equip Appearance" has been added to items that are eligible to become appearance items. You will only get this option if you could normally equip the item and if the item is currently in your inventory. * Added an option under the "Misc" page in the Options window. This option called "Unequip Items When Double Clicked in the Appearance Window" allows you to turn on/off the ability to unequip items in the Appearance window simply by double clicking on them. * A "Hide Appearance Items by Default" option has been added to the Misc section of the Options window. This option will automatically show you the normal appearance on any player creature you examine. The "Hide Appearance Items" option can also be toggled on the Examine window; it will just default to hiding those items. * The Examine window now has a checkbox to show/hide a user's appearance items. This will allow you to see the "true" items a character is wearing. http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.co ... th=current

 Re: SOE Game update 6
that sounds really really stupid =/
you can't wear anything you wouldn't normally be able to wear if you set the item as an appearance item, it's stats mean nothing if you equip the appearance item, it doesn't count towards your Inventory (like normal)
so... what's the POINT? Why not just wear the REAL stuff, and actually get the benefits from it. I'd understand if you could equip stuff you couldn't NORMALLY wear, but this just makes no sense =/

Also in NGE the different professions can get bonuses towards certain classes of armor, so they wear that armor but use a different appearance. I'm not sure since I don't play anymore, but I think you can also put clothing in the appearance slot, if they did this then it makes sense but otherwise the should of just made it so you can use any core in any armor.

 Re: SOE Game update 6
That must totally suck for PVP because half of the fun was knowing which weaponry and armor to wear against what opponent. Then again, I guess with all the server closures there aren't many players left to PVP against. I wonder if they have an appearance of a subscriber that used to pay $15 a month to play but left because NGE sucks so bad. If they had that appearance that's what I would be.

I think they stole the idea from Anarchy Online (unless im confusing with another MMO) ChixDigit wrote: That must totally suck for PVP because half of the fun was knowing which weaponry and armor to wear against what opponent. But then again, this idea does have benefits... it could be used as Cover to surprise the opponent... for example a bounty hunter can put normal cloths ontop of his Mandalorian Armor and appear more like a casual traveler rather then a bounty hunter approaching his mark. p.s. It would probably actually be the opposite. Players would use this feature to give them the appearance of wearing mando, (provided they have it) while in reality equipping more functional armor crafted with better stats. The most obvious benefit to this feature is it allows players to equip the appearance of regular clothing while in fact playing the game armored. This is something smugglers have wanted for a very long time, and it solves the whole "star warsy" feel without dealing with the hassles of innate armor abilities etc etc. In another way I suppose it solves the problem of the nge jedi everywhere. Nge jedi can now keep their robes on underneath, while maintaining a more subdued appearance, via normal clothes. Honestly, the more that I think about it, this would be a very simple way to solve the composite armor problem. If we enabled something like this, people could wear armor as usual, crafting would be the same as it was before, and really nothing would change pvp wise so long as the check boxes were implemented allowing players to turn the feature off.

 Re: SOE Game update 6
I think it's a very stupid feature. Now, instead of giving armosmiths needed business to have quality armor custom crafted, you just keep 1 set and change your appearance to look like you are wearing some other less quality cheaper armor. The only value I see in it, now I can actually wear my crappy stat Black Spec-Ops Stormtrooper, Imperial Camoflauge Scout Trooper or Restuss Crusader armors and still get the benefits of my primus layerd Stormtrooper armor. I would prefer that these armors were deconstructable and able to be remade to the stats you want instead of adding a lame "Apperance Tab".

 Re: SOE Game update 6
I liked the appearance tab, personally. Crafters had gotten the shaft a long time ago so this was hardly the final nail, and in any event, you still want to have as good of protection as you can which means you still need to buy/upgrade your armor and that means $$$ for merchants & tailors. What this did was allow you to customize your look, and wear the clothing of your choice. This increased individuality of the players because everyone of the same profession was running around in the same armor, so whatever was alpha at the moment was everywhere. Now, at least visually, the game had gotten more interesting. You could wear armor for appearance, but only if you were able to equip it normally (aka jedi still cannot wear statted armor).
TBH, it was a good thing for SOE to implement. My wookie character looked ten times better IMO.
