Its a free MMO thats pretty good.....i wont give it a great rating but ill give it a good rating.

Its like a free Lineage2. Theres one race that look like the dark elves and they run the same ( all hunched over)

Warriors , asassins, rangers, and damage and healing mages are the typical classes.

Its a good past time when the swg emu is acting gay and wont ket ya log in or whatever.

So if ya liked L2 then youll be amazed of how this one is so similiar..........and yes your enemy(PVP) can steal your stuff.

oh...and i also forgot.......alot of the mobs are topless women.......i got your attention now, dont i. :P

I did play this for a while. It's good if you like oriental-style MMOs, but it didn't grab me for long. Too PvP orientated and repetitive questing.

But hey it's free, and a lot of my PotBS guildies love it and still play it, so definitely worth a go.

I think this is one of the things that put me off it. There are already a few (!) places on the web where i can view such wonders as topless women. They seem out of place in a combat-orientated MMO.

I remember trying this out quite a while ago. But it's been long enough that I can't remember the distinction between it, Hero Online, Martial Heroes, 9 Dragons, Runes of Magic, World of Kung Fu, Silk Road Online, Xiah, Metin2, Perfect World, 2 Moons and all the other similar games I've played for the first dozen levels :P

I think I would have remembered topless enemies, so I probably didn't play that far into it. Unfortunately (or maybe not?), most MMOs can't hold my interest for more than a few weeks. They just take too much time investment to stay fun. :(

The company of friends makes all the difference though. If you've got a guild or friendly regulars, it can make the grinds bearable.

Mod Edit: I'm sure people will be able to find such pics on their own, if they want. Let's not embed them here.

Theres alot more of them out there but i guess thats enough pixil nudity for one night.

.....and yes i made a chic toon. Im a sucker for skimpy assassin armor.

Im up to lvl 26 now.

Whoa, that's kind of NSFW! Sorry Hilt, but we can't embed that kind of stuff here.

Shaiya's playerbase must have a high male:female ratio in the playerbase, I'd wager.

I can't speak for Vader, but for me this kind of thing is holding MMOs back.

Gaming generally is becoming more inclusive. It's no longer spotty teenage boys who make up the majority of the gaming community. More and more women/girls are realising that gaming can be for them too. Having this cliche of scantily clad women in fantasy games effectively cuts out half your player base. Does Shaiya have men's "parts" on view while you're playing? If it did, would you still want to play?

Like i say, if one wants to see this kind of thing, there is no shortage of it online! But it would be good if the tired sex-object cliches are kept out of online community games IMO.

I agree with Khargash. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy naked women very much, but it very bad to push something like that on female gamers. If my "full battle armor" only barely covered my characters crotch so that the females in the group would have something to oggle at I wouldn't be playing that game very long. Besides, armor that fails to cover the body yet has any protective qualities is immersion breaking.

As a female gamer, if a game tries to sell itself on the look of it's female models, it better have a HELL of a lot more to convince me. Or I take my business elsewhere. Besides finding it a bit 'pimpish' (in the bad sense of the word) I find it insulting to me as s gamer to think that I'd be lured just by that kind of graphic with no meaty content (pardon the pun).

Now if a game has great content and happens to employ the same narrow minded models, I have a tougher decision to make. I usually play it if the game is good but I still get angry and put off.

If its a smart game and the clothing makes sense I dont mind it as much. I've been known to wield nothing but the revealing fleshwrap and a flamethrower, but SWG is a game that doesnt sell itself on its female models, so it feels different. Also dancers dont require full body armor.

Mostly I HATE when armor makes no sense. Dont give my warrior maiden a bikini for pete's sake. How about some decent armor. Tabula Rasa got that very much right. That was a very underrated game

I hate to break it to you, Caella, but I don't think you even crossed their minds when they decided whom to market the game to with models like that. Don't get me wrong, it's their loss if you ask me, but businesses don't always try to target absolutely everybody.

Okay, im getting the feeling i need to speak defensively here....only because im the one that started all this mess.

First of all, just let me say that i did not play this game just because it had topless mobs in it. I was surprised when i first saw them. Theres been a ton of games out there where the female toons were dressed very slanky but nothing explicit like anything topless.

Shaiya was just a game that i tried to hold me over until something else arrives...thats it. I made the mistake of posting pics that i really had no idea would get the feedback it did. I apologize for that.....especially to the females we have here. Since it was a game.....i thought it was harmless.

I dont want anybody here to get any crazy ideas that i played this game just to look at pixil boobies.....i can go look at the real thing anytime i want. Im pretty picky about games, especially MMO's and the content they offer. Right now...and i think you can all agree..... is that theres nothing to play right now...nothing that i cant at least stay in for a long period of time right now.

I didn't think that was your reason. I wasn't even going to say anything and I dont think you should feel like you need to defend what you said... at ALL. I just gave my opinion on the topic after the discussion started :)

The game has absolutely great and fun low level PvP, the level 15 cap RvR instance. I've probably gotten there three times, once in beta and the other two times for professional development. However I think since there are no new servers, a lot of people have Hard Mode (unlockable after you max a Normal Mode Character) or Ultimate Mode (after you max out Hard Mode but if you die, its forever. You also get 10 stat points instead of 5 from the normal mode so they bloody hurt in PvP) in the lower level PvP zone. The classes around that level are also pretty balanced except rangers and assassins kind of suck.
Apart from that, the game is infested with those annoying pre-teens, gold sellers, bots, farmers... anything that you don't want. The grind sucks but quite easy to get around if you have a Tanker/Warrior Str/Cont + AoE Mage Combo Full Int. I also don't like Stat points because they are irreversible for a while. The game also has blaring similarities to Aion... extremely similar.
The art of Shaiya, especially the digital 'goddesses' were in CGI magazines and journals when they first appeared in Korea and soon the world. Quite nice in 2004? I forgot the year.
